Rate Dates in imported GL Batches

OK, so we are trying to bring nearly a year's worth of transactions into a new ACCPAC installation by importing the batches from Excel 2000 workbooks. They import without any error messages, BUT - all the detail line Rate Date values are reset to be equal to the date in the header record.

This happens no matter how I juggle the values. Any ideas?

SM and GL 5.1a with all the latest patches...
