I run into this now and again - I'll open a PDF in PS to rasterize, and a line of type will be missing - I can see the type through Acrobat Pro, but not PS. We get lots of ads from outside sources and 95% of the time like to rasterize them since some of our printers seem to have issues with type not properly embedding from client files. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Donna

You could ask for a specific type of PDF, such as PDFX1a. It's a pub standard.
Or you could create a Acrobat Distiller setting file, and email it to your outside sources, so they can distill postscripts using YOUR settings that you know your RIP can handle. Also, check to see if your RIP can handle PDFs exported directly from InDesign CS2. They create "compound fonts" which some RIPs don't deal with, and may explain why rasterizing such a PDF gets you missing type.

Thanks, Mark. Distiller option is probably the closest thing they'd understand.
