I have VPN enabled on SBS 200. Looking at Task Manager/Networking tab it shows local area connection 100 MBps and RAS dailer interface 28 KBps.
Is the RAS dailer entry standard as VPN is enabled and what determine the connection speed?
I don't think it's normal to see RAS dialer as an interface when VPN is set up. I don't think it's related. I'm not saying delete it though.
In any case, the 28KPbs has nothing to do with the speed of your VPN. That's mainly determined by the type of broadband connection you have and the level of encryption you are using with your VPN.
On all the sbs sytems I have ever setup with vpn you will always see the ras dailer interface. its displayed speed will change from 28k (default) when users connect at higher speeds.
hope this helps
Thanks i thought i have configured VPN incorrectly on SBS.
One more question on RAS/VPN:
When i make a VPN connection to the server i notice a few entries in DHCP console under list of IP addresses given out.
I make one connection and few IP address leases appear in DHCP with yellow dailer icon. Also it has the SBS server name appearing as client with every IP address.
Is this normal and why isn't showing the name of the remote computer instead.
The DHCP addresses are usually pre-reserved by the RAS service for VPN clients, so at the time that the lease is created, there's not an actually client. The server pre-leases addresses for the RAS service, so it uses its own name.
if you want to know which pc is connected just look in the rooting and remote access. it will show the pc name ip address and the time it has been connected.hope this helps. if needed you can also kick / disconnect a client from here also
