Hello!

I am just wondering if having multiple web sites on the same server (sub-hosted domain names) produces bad ranking when robots are spidering them (because of the fact that IP is always the same).

Does anyone have some knowledge to share about this subject?

Thanks a lot!

Hi,

I have never seen a problem with this unless the sites are all subdomains etc. (Free sites mostly)

Just because you are using VirtualHosts won't make a difference in any rankings. I know this from experience as I host a lot of sites on my own server and most of them return top for the keywords and phrases that they were optimised for.

The only difference is that a lot of engines space out the spidering of the sites so that the server is not being flooded with requests because it has many VirtualHosts.

Hope this helps Wullie

Thanks for your advice, Wullie.

Because having links toward your site in other
sites can increase ranking, I was thinking that a
clever spider would not fall in this kind of trap:
linking together plenty of virtual sub-hosted web sites who
are actually on the same server.

Have a good day.
