Some kind of bad software on an XP home PC. Creates services called Winkas, Winkfc, Winkihd, Winkij, Winklb,Winkod, Winkzt, etc... These are randomly generated names.
Open up these services and Start,Stop are grayed out, I can only reset the Startup to Disabled and reboot, then delete the file (located in System32). But upon reboot it creates a new one. This program, whatever it is, prevents Task Manager from opening (so I can't kill the process), and it causes IE to hang as well.
Did a virus scan, and scanned machine with Adaware - these did not clean it. Checked MSConfig for anything untoward starting up, and browsed the registry Run keys as well (Run, RunServices, etc..)
Can't find the culprit. Does this sound familiar to anyone?
Thanks,
