Hi,
I'm having a problem on a file that was originally created in quark 4 and converted to indesign. The type is thickening in random areas when ripped for print, there are no transparent images used on the pages, and I put the type (with an object of 100 opacity and run-around but no colour fill) on to a separate layer as this has solved the problem before. But it's still happening, with no indication on my side, pdfs and laser prints all look fine, just the call from the printer.
If anyone could throw some light on this for me I would be really grateful.

...without seeing the artwork it is difficult to really see what might be going wrong, sounds as if you have done the correct procedure of placing type on layers above everything else...

...Quark 4 to Indesign doesn't do a bad job in most cases, as a rule i would always keep the artwork in its native app wherever possible...

...have you supplied them with a press ready pdf or have you sent them the original indesign files, fonts images etc?

Sometimes, I've gotten Q4 things where the original person did different things with the text, like having bold typeface and then having an applied bold, or having all caps and also having typed with caps lock (that creates a load of fun, producing Russian like text on certain words when it goes to postscrtipt).

Try opening the origiinal in Q4 and see what was done with the problem text. If you know the exact problem text, you might see if ID is calling for a different face or weight, or even a stroke, then other text.
