First post to the forum... :)

I'm working on a brochure in Illustrator 9 (Macintosh) and printing to Canon/Xerox/Tektronix laser printers -- all with the same problem. On one "panel" of the brochure, the text randomly appears bold. Not all of the text, just occasional lines and one whole paragraph.

The font is Adobe Garamond and it appears on a pale colored background fill. I've made sure the font is set to Regular, just like all the other text in the document; I've tried printing to multiple printers. Nothing is working.

Any ideas? Please?

Thanks, jAQUAN! If you have a minute --- what's the difference between the various instances of Garamond? What makes Garamond 3 work better than Adobe Garamond?

And I just discovered another solution to this problem on the Adobe user-to-user board, as well. The Quality/Speed slider setting (in Document Setup > Transparency) was not set high enough. It was midway rather than all the way to the right.

Since I'm not using transparency effects in the document, I wouldn't have thought this would be an issue ... but the print-out is fine once I changed this. (The original design used transparency, however it was changed because our production printer can't handle gradients very well.)

Not quite sure why Garamond 3 works better, every garamond i have comes from adobe so its not the foundry. I have to assume its just cause its newer.

Pretty sure that transparancy setting is for display purposes only and would print the same at any setting.
