Random slow data transfer speeds on 46XXSW Switch ports

We have approx (400) 4610SW and 4620SW phones in our main location. We have a single connection to our HP Pro Curve switches, and the PC's plug into the switch port of the phone. We utilize separate Voice and data VLAN's.
Certain random users are have been complaining about slow network speed. When speed is tested using a 10mb file across our Internal network we are seeing total transfer speeds of 10mins/10Mb= 1meg per minute.
When we swap out the phone, the issue goes away and we get transfer speeds of 10 to 15secs per 10mb. If we directly plug the phone into the network jack, using the same port using the same Ethernet cable and network speeds are normal.

This is only happening randomly to maybe 1 or two phones a week, and just started happening. We have 2.9 firmware installed on the phones and our 46xxxsettings.txt file has the switch port locked down at 100MB full duplex

Any insight would be helpful

Thanks in advance

Make sure that you have the phones configured to run 100/FULL port speed and duplex. This can be configured in the 46xxsettings file.

You should see a section that looks like this:

Code:
################## ETHERNET INTERFACES ###################
##
## Primary Interface Status
## Controls the speed and duplex settings for the primary
## Ethernet interface.
## 1 for auto-negotiate
## 2 for 10Mbps half-duplex
## 3 for 10Mbps full-duplex
## 4 for 100Mbps half-duplex
## 5 for 100Mbps full-duplex
## 6 for 1Gbps full-duplex (96xx phones only)
SET PHY1STAT 5

Make sure the line "SET PHY1STAT " is set to "5".

simreal,

Thanks for your reply, My SET PHY1STAT is set to 5.

Definately a speed/duplex mismatch. Look at the network speed on the PC and maybe lock the PC NIC at 100/full as AUTO may be setting the wrong speed and/or duplex.

Ok .. if your setting is correct for the phones .. the network side needs to be locket at 100/FULL as well. If both sides aren't locked then the speed/duplex will negotiate to half duplex. It may be 100MB or it may be 10MB but either way half duplex is a nightmare for the data traffic.
