This is one of those questions where I am not exactly expecting any specific answers (though one would be nice ;-)), but anyone can share their ideas and info...

How are the XML services, such as XSL, XSD, etc... programmed (what language is used???)

Are they Java Based? C++? IE plugins? Active X controls? or What???

How does the namespace thing work with XSL...
I know how to use it, but what makes it work the way it does???

And Finally....
Taking the above questions into consideration, would it be possible to develop your own parser/transformation tools, to use with XML, as XSL is used?

Are there any known tutorials to do this type of development?

Text in, text out: use any programming language you want.

You can find the answers to your questions at w3c.org, just be prepared to go through a lot of material, as the "recommendations" (specs) aren't trivial.

For example, xt is the de facto reference XSL processor. The Java source is freely available. You can do whatever you want with it, including rewrite it, although doing so would be a monumental effort just for the sake of exercise.
