random keyboard input

I tried to log on to a NT Workstation and realized that I am getting random keyboard input...virus?

Possbly, it could also be a bad or dirty keyboard, a bad cable, a bad connection, or interference from another device (e.g., the cable running over a UPS).

Thanks, it may very well be hardware, actually, I get numbers instead of letters for about six characters. The DI from PI
