Hello,
I'm new to this forum and just looking for a little help or direction.
I have IP Office in 2 of my buildings and one of them has a random clicking noise on all the lines and phones.
My software and hardware is:
IP 406 V 2.1 (73)
IP Office Voicemail Pro Client V2.1 (25)
IP Office Manager V 4.1 (73)
We've tested the T1s end to end with no errors.
Although I've pretty much taught myself the basics of this system I have no troubleshooting experience on Avaya. I'm pretty much limited to User setup and voicemail config.
Any help that anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Are all the units correctly grounded, what type of handsets are they?

Are you using a mobile gateway, if so then it's to close to the IPOffice.

They are a mix of 4606 (maybe 15 of them), I believe there are 2 5600, and the rest are standard telephone.
Not sure about the grounding. I may check it tomorrow if you think it may be the problem.

Ok I apologize for my lack of Avaya knowledge.
Mobile Gateway?

Mobile Gateway is a box "next" to the T1, when a caller is caling a mobile number then it's not sent over the T1 but over a mobile gateway. mobile to mobile calls are most of the times cheaper then calls from landlines to a mobile.

Also a Wifi access point could disturb a connection if it's to close to the ipoffice or any cable that connect the ipoffice.

I've seen this before on IP Phones, was down to the network switch. Can you confirm that the ordinary phones have also the same clicking noise?

If it is the same noise as I'm thinking. (more of a scheek, that a tick and only on an external call) then its a clocking issue.
Easiest way to confirm is to go to system monitor and connect is to your IP office(IP address of IPO plus password: password (default)). (installed from admin cd) and select trace options/filters and go to the ISDN tab and tick Events layer 1.

Look for lines with ISDNL1Evt:
On a perfect line you should get none of these events.

If you see: eg:
164330mS ISDNL1Evt:v=1 peb=1 F4 F3
or F8 or T3TO or F7 then you have a clocking issue.

Since the lines are clocked off the exchange then its a telco fault. Convincing them of that is the hard part as clocking issues won't show on their bread and butter tests. Requires an expensive analyser u c.

OK, first off Thanks to everyone for your help.
I got more direction here in 1 day than weeks on other forums.
Here's what I found....

We have no mobile gateway.

There was however 2 adtrans and 2 CSUs that someone disconnected the ground on. ( I did a temp fix until I can correct it)

The lines are clicking on both the analog and digital phones.

I have the monitor running now. If they tell me that there is clicking I'll search the events.

I seriously doubt it is the lines, I had them tested multiple times with the results sent to me. I'm also a 10 year HICAP vet. I'm fairly sure it's something in-house.

I haven't done much with the vendor equipment. I have reset the CSUs and the adtrans. But I don't want to mess with the vendor stuff too much.

I have noticed the clicking on both T1s though.

OK, Tried all of the suggestions. The ground is fixed. the wireless access point is moved 100-125 feet away from the equipment. I have yet to see the timing error on the monitor. T1's again tested fine. I replaced the ethernet cable to the equipment with a new one as well as plugging into a different switch. Any other suggestions?
Is there anything on the PC side that could be causing this?
Could dirty power be a problem or a bad UPS?

last time we had this kind of ticking it was a clocking issue.

i notice you said both T1's

so you have 2? am i right in thinking that a T1 is what we would call an ISDN30 in the UK?

Never argue with an idiot. bystanders won't be able to tell the difference.

clicked submit a bit hastily :)

if you have two trunks, are they both set to network?

found under line settings > clock quality

I do not see that option in the manager.
Would this be a vendor setting on the T1's?

nah, its in manager,

line>select relevant line>Clock Quality.

im basing this on uk ISDN30 settings. which i assume are similar to T1 (to the best of my knowledge)

Queue about 30 people ready to prove me wrong

@Tom, I have a copy of a US config that I keep so I can check my answers for differences in region. I often shy away from answering in fear of being shot down and made to look an ass :)

I have IP Office Manager 4.1 (73)
When I open it under the configuration tree I have "Line (20)"
It appears that is is listing the DS0 and not the 2 T1's.
If I right click on any line to view or edit there are no clocking options that I can see. From what I can tell the T1's are nowhere to be found inthe manager.

Never Gonna say anyone is an @$$. If someone is trying to help, right or wrong, they can't be an @$$.

Andrew. id love to see that.

the only international config i have is a 412 we had an SCN to from london to dubai.

50 Alog Trunks!!!!!

jnagle

is there just the one line under line in the config?
