One physical 13 gig drive with 4 partitions
The C drive holds windows 98se OS and core programs seems to be working fine.
D drive has most programs like office graphics texbridge etc they are working.
E drive had Apache server pearl and music mp3's
F drive had saved correspindence pictures etc
E and F are now invisible to fdisk.
Init failure with Partition Magic installed on D:.
No problems in device manager.
Ran fdisk/mbr from start up disk no change
New growling noise on post durring and after memory test no hd red light activity.
When red light on hd spins up smoothly

You might want to try a data recovery app (free one here - Sounds like you might have some sort of hardware problem (hard disk or other). You could try getting hold of disk manufacturer's utility to check the drive (could also run scandisk). Might be worth considering a replacement drive (although, if you manage to retrive data, you could recreate logical drives and see if ok. I must admit I never use extended partitions as I have lost them several times before, for no apparent good reason. I always use primary partitions now).
