Hi All,

How can I tell if PC133 or DDR memory will run in Pentium III, 600MZ clone machine?

Any help will be very much appreciated.

Thanks

You need to arm yourself with the motherboard manual and use one of the configurators at crucial.com (or similar) and it'll tell you what memory is compatible with your board.

Thanks. Really appreciate it.

Chances are that it's PC100 or PC133 if it's an Intel board. I don't believe Intel released a chipset that supported DDR with the PIII.

It was Asus MB PC100, but at least it supports PC133 memory. Thanks to gargouille for the idea. I never known that there was a "configurator" thing because I never bought computer peripherals online.

Just as another side note...

Be careful when buying PC133 for a PC100 motherboard. Usually it will work, but other times it will not. It depends on the memory module. For example, if you look closely at the module(s) already in your system, you'll notice that they are either dual- or single-sided. Most PC133 chips are single-sided. So, unless you already have single-sided modules, I highly recommend you verify that the ones you are buying are "dual-sided" (they are more compatible with older motherboards).

Also, PC133 will only run at PC100 speeds (100MHz) on PC100 motherboards. There is no advantage of buying PC133 over PC100 in your case...

Hi cdogg,

Thanks for your note. I decided to order PC100, I agree with you that PC100 mememory won't run faster than 100Mhz.

Again, Thanks a lot.
