Sytem Properties show 192 mb ram, but I have a 256 mb memory board plugged in.Is something installed wrong? Should it not show 256 mb in System Prperties?

You might have a Video card that shares memory with it. In that case it would be sharing exactly 64MB.
And that is why you get 192MB. Check your video card for its specifications.

Unknown has caused an Unknown Error on Unknown and must be shutdown to prevent damage to Unknown.

no video card, monitor right into connection on mother board

So you have on-board video which is using 64MB of your 256MB. If you upgrade to 512MB, your video will use 64MB leaving you with 448MB. If you replace the onboard video with a separate video card, all of your 256MB will become usable. This behavior is normal.

In your bios you should have an option to change how much memory the on-board video is using.

When fustrated remember, In the computer world there is allmost always a backdoor.

Beowulf005,

"[blue]In your bios you should have an option to change...[/blue]"

Now why exactly would you want to? Are you sure you're not referring to the AGP Aperture setting?

If so, it is strongly recommended that you leave this setting to the default unless you have a video card installed with oodles of memory. Even then, making a change to the aperture in the BIOS usually doesn't do you much good. The best option is to buy more RAM if that's what you're concerned about.

goddy1,

"on-board video" - I'm sure that's what vacunita meant since a "video card" doesn't need to share memory, only older integrated video chips do...

Sorry it took me so long to come back, but yes, I meant integrated video, or on board video. Plugin cards be it PCI or AGP, always have there own memory. Only integrated cards sometimes share RAM. This is moslty present in laptops. Although some desktops also exhibit this behavior.

Unknown has caused an Unknown Error on Unknown and must be shutdown to prevent damage to Unknown.
