I have a gigabyte GA-586TX motherboard (can take 256MB of RAM) and the BIOS award Software V4.51PG.

I have 4 SIMMS in my computer = Each 16MB
I have 1 DIMM = 32MB

I tried adding 128MB of PC133 memory into the spare DIMM slot but all it can see is 32MB of the memory. I tried taking out the original DIMM and switching things around etc but still the same result each time.

I went to the shop and got a PC100 128MB version. But, still the same problem.

Does anyone now whether the BIOS has to be set in a certain way to enable the memory or if the motherboard has to be set in a certain way?

Thanks.., I'm going crazy here ;o)

Have you read you manual regarding what kind a memory it can take? Many Mobo's that have both types of RAM can take one OR the other not both.
If it does work (which it sounds like it might) then make sure you are not going over the maximum amount of RAM the board can recognize which may be only 64 MB DIMMs, and possibly the new stuff (PC100 and better) won't work.

try taking out the SIMMS. Most Mobo's will let you mix and match - BUT, DIMM Slot 1 will only work if SIMM slots 1 & 2 are empty, and so on.

It may just be that the board is old enough that it won't recongize sticks bigger than 32 megs. Justin

Thanks guys...

Took out the first pair of SIMMS and the extra RAM kicked into life. I only wish the motherboard manual could of been a bit more helpful ;o)

Cheers,
Marcus
