I need help i just bought 256MB or ram and installed it in my computer, but yet it only recognizes 128MB in my system information. I dont have any ideas of what to do, i have switched the spots, scandisk, defrag., and i still have no idea, if someone would be nice enough and help me out. Please give me things to try to fix this.

Is it one stick or 2? If its one, what's the maximum size stick your motherboard supports? (ie, does it support 256?).

If its 2, do they each register as 128?

It's nothing to do with scandisk or defrag, what make and model of motherbaord is it, if you know that then you'll be able to acertain what memory it supports etc.

Feedback will benefit all

This happens quite alot nowadays with slightly older motherboards, even though PC133 is supposed to be backward compatible it is often a lottery as to wether it will work at all and in some cases like yours, that they only see half of what is fitted.(even when you are not exceeding the slots capacity)
If you can source older PC100 this is often more successful, there is also a general consensus that double sided fully populated modules that are less dense are more compatible with problem mainboards.
Slightly older Gigabyte motherboards are particularly prone to these compatibility issues, I remember my daughters 71XE4 having this very fault as well as many others models from this manufacturer (maybe this is just because they are popular) Martin Replying helps further our knowledge, without comment leaves us wondering.
