Hi folks,

we're trying to build a raid5 ssa array on one of our system..

The following questions came up so far:

1) How do we create a "candidate" disk for raid5 out of normal ssa disks ?

2) We'd like to use one disk for hot spare. Do we define this disk as a normal array member disk under smit and enable "use of hot spare disks" or do we have to create a separate "hot spare pool" and put the hot spare disk into that pool ? Would we also have to enable "use of hot spare disks" when defining the raid5 array using this option ?

Thanks in advance !

Thomas

Tsch,

Well simple really :

1) work out which disk you want to use in the raid array - that is the pdisk number : ssaxlate -l hdisk<>

smitty ssaraid

Change show/use of an SSA physical disk - select your pdisk

In the Current Use field F4 and select RAID candidate.

et voila...

2) You do not add the disk to the RAID array - identify which disk you want to be the hot spare and repeat the procedure above - i.e. but change the Current Use field to Hot Spare Disk. You will need to set the attribute "Enable Use of hot spares" to yes when creating the array.

Best of luck

It worked so far...

I've also created a hot spare disk via your discription.
I can identify as well as list this disk. It comes up as "spare" with status "good".

But whenever I try to "add a hot spare pool" the system tells me "no item of this type available" ...

What's wrong here ?

Thomas
