Raid0 on a 100GB HDD and 80GB HDD = 160GB. Can I 'reclaim' the 20GB?

Hello all.

I've decided to go with the RAID0 (striped) and back up my files onto my other PC. The to-be RAID0 box has a 100GB HDD and an 80GB HDD. In the RAID set up utility, it indicates that if striping is used, I only have an effective capacity of 160GB (80GB + 80GB), which makes sense. But is it possible to somehow 'reclaim' the remaining 20GB that's on the 100GB HDD? My guess is no, but I thought I'd ask.

Thanks

Alex

I'de be interested to know if anyone has a solution. But to the best of my knowledge the answer is no.

You are always supposed to RAID identical drives. Hence the driver manufacturers make no allowances for any other combinations bar accepting the possibility that one drive may be smaller and permitting a RAID to the capacity of the smaller disk.

No, it is not possible.
