I am building a new computer. Since I had an accident with my data, I want to include a second harddrive that mirrors using RAID. The harddrives will be 160 GB maxtor Diamond 9 Plus, serial ATA. I use Windows 2000 as an operating system. Should I buy a motherboard that includes RAID like the ASUS P4P800 or should I get a seperate controller card. Basically, does RAID built in on the motherboard function as well, or does it just tend to be a cheap add-on?

An if I should get a seperate RAID card, which one should I get?

Well, windows 2000 has a software RAID solution under disk management. Your drives will have to be dynamic prior to you being able to use this.

The best way to use RAID is with Hardware. A RAID controller can be purchased and is usually costly.
