i have a motherboard which is kk266 r, i know it is capable of raid, (im not sure what that is exactly) but i do know that there seems to be 4 ide slots on the motherboard, now i want to add a 3rd hard disc in my computer, i was wondering if anyone knows if i can add the 3rd hard disc in to 1 of the raid type slots, or will it not work. (i think raid is to do with mirroring hard disc to keep a back up and also splitting the task between to hard disc to do a job,) but if anyone knows if i can add a third hard disc in the yellow raid slot will it work as a 3rd hard disc, i really need someones help and advice, thanks for you time.

RAID - Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks. (Though now they are expensive). The oringinating idea was to provide more no of cheaper disk. though there are may levels of RAID, but in ur case it should be 0 and 1.
0 stand for spanning. see following link for details

Raid 1 is mirroring.

both RAIDS require atleast two disks. for yr system/ (OS) RAID disks would be only one diskhowver, i think ur m/b supports spare replacement drive .

thanks so what your saying is that i can use the raid 0 as my 3rd drive ???

pls check up the literatue if any provided with the system m/b becuase u require at least two disk to mak a RAID config eitherf or 0 or 1.

because spanning aslo requires min of 2 disk and o is mirroring
