Raid mirror failed

Hi,
My 2008 standard DC had recently had one of the hard disks in a raid 1 mirror fail. Whilst the server boots up from the single disk, it doesnt fully load windows. Even in safe mode, the server simply displays an applying updates\applying settings loop without logging in.

I have a system state backup on an external backup. I was thinking of installing windows from scratch to get Windows back, but now am thinking of somehow trying to get Windows up and running using directory restore mode. Any advice on how to get windows back is much appreciated....

What sort of RAID controller was it? Was it a hardware controller? If so, you should be able to simply replace the failed disk and then let the RAID controller rebuild the mirror and you're good to go. Unless you replaced the good disk instead of the failed disk...

Are you sure it was a failed disk and not something OS-related?

AD Restore More isn't going to help you if your base OS is down. Was this system a DC? If so, in theory you should be able to rebuild it (use a different name) and then promote it, allow replication to take place and everything is back. If it was your only DC then you're going to have to restore from backup.

To add..
Agree AD restore will accomplish nothing.
Depending which adapter is performing the raid function (or if it is OS based), I have seen the loading updates screen take a couple hours to finish in extreme cases, especially with a degraded raid, give it time.
