Raid Help?

We have a Windows NT4 server with a Raid 5, the spare drive died so we replaced it will same drive. Now in the Adaptec CI/O management software it shows up as a single drive but when we try to create spare drive it gives this error message "This operation is not valid at this time, becasue the drive[bus 1, Channel a, SCSI ID 5] is known to the O/S. Again the new spare drive is exactly the same as the old spare drive which died.
