Can I use a smart-array 221 controller with fast-wide drives? I have 6 4.3GB fast-wide drives that I would like to put into a raid 5 configuration. I got a used proliant 3000 PII 333mhz machine for free along with these free drives so I am doing this just as a project for home so I can't spend too much money. I don't know that much about scsi so if this card would not work any suggestions on any cards that might work. I ask because I found a good deal for one of these cards for $100.

Thanks
Dave L.

Yes it will work ok.
The SA221 is quite a basic controller but you'll be able to get RAID1, 5 etc.

Thank you for the help. I wasn't sure if the card was backward compatible with the fast wide drives.

Thanks
Dave L.
