We recently talked to a Dell representative after weeks of tearing our hairs out with SCSI LUN Bad errors and NT SCSI Port errors in ARcserve 2000. Turns out that he has another client with the same configuration as us (Adaptec 36160/3960D SCSI Card + PERC2 RAID Controller with Tape Library) that has experienced similar problems to ours. Perhaps it's an incompatability between the two? The 39160 is quite a new card so any bugs/incompatabilities may only now be rearing their heads.. Dell is sending us different SCSI Cards on Monday to see if that fixes the problem - will keep you up to date. Edmée de Klerk

Update: Our backups are now working! the Adaptec 39160 card does cause the above mentioned errors. Our solution: Using the Adaptec 2940U2W for the tape library's robotic arm, and the Adaptec 39160 for the drives. Disabled the BIOS loading of the 39160, instead using the 2940U2W BIOS. My opinion, don't use the 39160 card if you can, use the 2940U2W instead. The BIOS loading of the 39160 caused the IO errors (LUN Bad, NT SCSI Port errors). These all disappeared after switching to the 2940U2W BIOS. So if you have the errors mentioned above, check your scsi card! Edmée de Klerk
