Hello,

We have a new StarFire v880 server with 12 36G disks, 9 are placed in a raid 5 group with a hot spare. The other day, one of my disks had some read/write errors, and was hot spared out. I used disksuite to enable the device again, it resynced and everything was fine for about 4 hours. Then it went down again. I then replaced the drive (hot swapped using the correct procedure from sun) and used metareplace -e to enable the new disk, It resynced and everything was fine again for about 5 hours, then after a reboot, it came up as needs maintenance and was hot spared again.

I have trouble believing that 2 new disks are bad, so I would like to know if anyone has any suggestions as to what could cause this? Did I miss something? would it even work at all if I had? Could it be a controller/cable problem? HELP!!!! thanks

Phil.

yes, the disk could still work if you had a controler/cable problem, more than likely though, a controler would cause other issues, not just isolated to that one drive. When there is some down time, peel back the skin and check the cables.
If there is another slot available in the system, the next time a disk is replaced, try placing it in adifferent slot, but remember to mirror across the controler.
