RAID 1 2

How the hell do you set up RAID 1? I know that its meant to mirror data on 2 hd's. I could do with this as we have important data. Works as a back up and a Fault Tolaurance. (I know I can't spell!)

Presuming you have your two hard disks in the machine - the one with data on and the blank one - it's a fairly straightforward process.

Go into Computer Manager and look at Storage/Disk Management. You need to ensure both disks are dynamic disks in Windows 2000 - if they are not you can right-click the disk name to the left and select Upgrade to dynamic disk. Once they are both dynamic right-click the volume with the data on it already and select Create mirror. Answer the questions in the wizard and Bob's your uncle.

Mirroring like this gives you fault tolerance but I would be wary of relying on it as a backup - the mirror contains an exact copy of what's on the other disk, so if the data there is corrupt or tampered with the mirror will reflect this (obviously). There's no substitute for a regular backup to a tape or similar.

1.You need to upgarade ur two hdd to dynamic disks to create a mirrored volume ,u can do that in disk mamagement.(To open Disk Management, click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, double-click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Computer Management. In the console tree under Storage, click Disk Management)
2.to make a miror right clck the disk to be mirrored and click add miror and then follow the instruction.
3.To create boot disk
Insert one of the disks into the floppy disk drive on a computer running any version of Windows or MS-DOS.
Insert the Windows 2000 compact disc (CD) into the CD-ROM drive.Click Start, and then click Run.
In the Open box, type d:\bootdisk\makeboot a: (where d is the drive letter assigned to your CD-ROM drive), and then click OK.Follow the screen prompts.
4.You should update the boot disk's boot.ini. just give the ARC name of both the disks in boot.ini .
5.Test the disk with the primary disk powered on and then with the primary disk powered off. In both cases, if you can log on, the boot disks work.
