Hi all;

I have setup the RAID 1 on HS21 blade server, but can not install Windows server 2003 on it. During the text mode setup, after the first time reboot to restart window, blue screen always pop up regarding disk error, and suggest run chkdsk /f. I have delete the RAID and re config the RAID with RAID 1, the blue screen still pop up.
The HS21 has 2 x 70GB SAS disks and the RAID controller is SAS 1064E-IR.
Due to first time using IBM product, I wonder whether I have done something wrong or the setup of the blade center and the HS21 blades were not correct.
I am seeking advices or web documents to setup the HS 21 properly. Please help....

Thanks a lot.

No, I am using the dvd rom from the bladecenter H media tray with the MS server 2003 CD. the blade HS21 can be boot up via the CD and start the text mode setup, but after the first reboot, the blue screen pop up regarding the disks error.

Can you provide more detail on the blue screen error message. Does it just say 'disk error'? Did you press F6 during test mode and supply a driver diskette?

Use the IBM ServerGuide to do the install. It will load all the Windows drivers required for the system

Hi all;

First, thanks for all the responses. It is great!

I have used ServerGuid to install Windows server 2003, by follow the screen instruction, windows 2003 server has been installed on the HS21 with no error.

After the os being installed, there is still one problem, NO network activity go though the NIC 1 and NIC 2!

I think it is better (or I would like) to open a new thread for this NIC issue and the firmware upgrades.

Once again, thanks to all who have responsed to this.

Best regards

Hi Larry and all;

The HS21 are having NIC1 and NIC2 connected to network via the Copper Pass-thru modules.
After windows server 2003 with SP2 installed, there are no net activity in these switch modules, none of the chanel indicators are on or blinking. the NIC driver seems OK under the Conrol panel, system, hardware device manager. The subnet and the network switch are working fine, other servers eg. HPs connected to the same network switch are working fine, new plug in devices can pick up the DHCP from the same sub net with no issue.
I have also updated the NIC driver via the "Broadcom NetXtreme II Gigabit Ethernet s/w CD version T2.8.8", which come with the HP21, the driver was installed but still having issues.
I wonder whether the firmware on these Copper Pass-thru modules need to be updated or not. If yes, then where I can find it? it seems too many firmware there, do I need to apply them all on the HS21 and the bladeCentre H?
Also, a newer version T3.0.5 CD for the NIC is available from IBM web site, I wonder if update the NIC driver from this T3.0.5 CD will fix the NIC problems or not.
Any one having the same NIC issues as I?

Best regards

Kent
