I have a new Dell Dimension 8400 system that I purchased set up with a RAID 1 configuration. I have decided to switch to just using the two drives separately. The system includes an Intel RAID Bios. Is it possible to switch the second drive out of the RAID configuration without altering or destroying the data on the main drive? I plan on reformatting the second drive once it has a drive letter. If it can be done, what is the easiest way to do this?

Thanks,
Ed

If it is Raid 1 you should be able just to disconnect one drive, as both drives have identical information. Then in the bios you have to disable the raid system. Then connect the second drive and the machine should boot ok. You can then format the second drive and use as you like.
Regards
