I'm going to be setting up a Raid 0 on a Gigabyte GA-8IPE1000 Pro3 w motherboard. Since I've never done a Raid Array before I would like any advice and/or info. I've read SYAR2003's excellent HOW TO... faq779-4641. Unlike mine, this deals with an Nforce board. Since they're different I was wondering if there are other issues that I should be aware of or other sites with clear instructions for setting up a raid 0.

My specs:

Intel Pentium 4 3.00 GHz 512K 800FSB w/ Hyper-Threading
Gigabyte GA-8IPE1000 Pro3 w motherboard
(2) Maxtor 80GB DiamondMax Plus 9 7200rpm Serial ATA 8MB Cache
OCZ 1024MB PC3200 Premier Series Dual Channel DDR Kit (2 x 512MB)
MSI FX5900XT-VTD128 128MB w/ VIVO, DVI

Thanks in advance!

Cheers

What are you going to do when one of those 80's goes south? sure you gain 5-10 percent performance but you double your chances of loosing all your data,1 drive dies there is no way to get any data back. but then again i'm paranoid, for me, mirror is better. I like a backup i don't have to think about.:) thatbeing said,i'll step off the soap box and say that pretty much all ide raid solutions are set up the same way, when you boot,an option will display the key combination to get into the raid configuration and set up. then choose the options you want.

Agreed, mirror is better (safer) but will have backup's via DVD-R media. Only doing this setup as this is a gaming machine so no critical data being stored.

Will be setting up a mirrored raid later for my wife's pc as backup is critical...and will be using Acronis True Image for scheduled imaging as I too am really paranoid!

Thanks for the info!

Cheers
