Rage128Orion in beige G3

I have tried to put in an ATI Rage 128 Orion into my beige G3...Sonnet 500Mhz 256MB Ram
I am running OSX 10.2 and have installed the radeon driver from ATI's site (file is Radeon-0210.sit)

System Profiler sees it in A1 as ATY,Rage128o
I cannot get it to work though.
I have no video from the card.
I don't know enough about macs as it is but I have seen nothing in the docs ATI provides to say anything about a jumper or anything I need to do disable the onboard video.

The video card would need to be FOR a mac, but you can have as many as you want, I run 2 video cards plus onboard video on my mac. But do be sure the video card was intended for a mac. You can some time flash a PC video card with Mac firmware, but it is not a surefire thing to try. This article hints PC ATI's rarely work in Macs.

This card came from a UMAX so I would guess it is a card made for Macs.

pulled it from the Beige G3 and put it in my PPC6500/250 and I have video from it.
I am so confused!!!

just for kicks I put it into the other spare PCI slot, it works now

it is wierd that the profiler saw it though?!?

We get so used to laughing at Windows plug and Pray, we forget there are issues with Mac plug and play as well, if the last card in that PCI slot was a card from the same manufacturer, but a different model, the driver will sometimes not update.

adding a different vendor's card and rebooting 'should' make that slot available. I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.
