RADIUS Auth fails after PDC role transferred

We're using W2K with AD in a mixed mode domain. I transferred the PDC op master role from one dc to another , and it seemed to work fine. I could look under Server Manager on an NT bdc and it showed the PDC as the dc with the newly transferred role. However, when a user tried to authenticate with our vpn which uses RADIUS for authentication they get a user authentication failed message. I tried several fixes, and none worked. I transferred the PDC role back to the original server after spending a few hours unsuccessfully trying to correct the problem, but it immediately went away after transferring the PDC role back to the original server.

Why is this? What is happening? Any ideas? I need to remove AD from the original PDC server but can't do it until I've solved this problem.
