I have aquired 7 working Radiant P1520 Systems that appear to be working. They boot up and go into Aloha. I believe they are looking for a server.

Here is my questions.

1. Can these POS systems be used independently or must they be connected to a server?

2. How hard is it to set this up for a restaurant? We are a start up and we aquired these as part of a purchase lot and I would like to know if they can be salvaged for use.

3. Anywhere in particular I should look for help? I am pretty tec savy and can build a server if necessary, but not sure if the software needs to be replaced, Aloha any good, proprietary problems?

Thanks for any feedback. Please let me know if there is additional information I should be posting.

Yes you will need the aloha server and the license key which will allow you to run aloha pos based on the license, it will allow you to run "x" number of terminals, etc. without the aloha software key, your system will not operate and you will need to purchase the license from your local reseller.

If you plan on processing credit cards via your POS, be sure to use a PCI compliant OS on those POS Stations. XP is dead and a PCI compliance violation after 4-8-2014. If you're tech savy you probably already know that but it's important enough to mention just in case.

Along with the 7 terminals was there a back office computer also left behind? If you have the back office computer as well you may be able to get aloha up and running, see what version it is. Knowing that will let you know if an upgrade is needed. Should you need help getting setup let us know. There are many of us here who can offer great advice.

TobeThor, has it right about XP and PCI complaince. All the Radiant P1220's and P1520's can be upgraded to POSready 9 good through 2019. Hope the computers will last that long.

No server/black box was there, just the POS terminals, cash drawers and printers.

Radiants are at version 1.0.08

I am actually looking to use these as a simple POS to process bar orders, and run a CC or cash through it. I can handle upgrading to win 7 or 8.

Is there a POS software better suited on these POS's I should be looking at that is simple. I don't need labor, inventory or any extra gizmos. Just want a basic pos.

Thanks again everyone!

Perrard,

We sell a good POS solution if you are interested.

Am I understanding you correctly when you say that both the P 1220 and the P 1520 XP embedded terminals are up gradable to be good/compliant through 2019? I am currently running version 6.5 of Aloha and recently purchased new file servers in order to run Windows 7. I was told that my file server a S4600 was not capable of running Windows 7 and that it was not possible to upgrade it to do so. I am now being told that in order for me to remain compliant and or update to higher version of Aloha my terminals will need to be replaced due to the fact that they are maxed out with regards to RAM and processing power. I have one each of the terminals I listed. I do not begin to think that I am computer savvy but would think that RAM and processing power could both be added. Any guidance or advise would be greatly appreciated.

What is the original COA operating system license that is listed on the POS terminals you have?

I can not locate that information. The only visible stickers are the Radiant serial numbers.

The P1520 and P1510 as I have been told can only be upgraded to 512 ram. I cannot speak from experience on this. As to the P1220, all the ones I have (over 40) have been upgraded to 1 gig of ram. I have a client running 6.7 ts with 12 P1510 with 512 ram. they are slow to boot but otherwise run just fine. They have XP embedded standard.

As to your S4600 server being able to run Win7, You can run the win7 readyiness check to find out for sure. I would still suggest getting a new back office computer. Then reinstall aloha on it. Move your data and worry about the FOH later.

TObeThor, Xp Embedded standard end of life is not until Dec 31, 2016 so while Xp is dead, its light weight brother is still alive and kicking

In reference to Windows XP Embedded, I thought the End of Support date was more important than the End of License date for PCI Compliance. If the product is not being supported than no updates will be made available. Is that not correct?

Yeah, I'm curious about that too. It's been my impression that XP embedded is dead as well.
