Hi Guys,
I'm helping my brother install a P1220 in his new mom n pop style coffee shop. His extremely limited start up budget doesn't go past a regular till but I found an old used p1220 and we bought this.
I plan to install Unicenta / openbravo pos on it but I have a few questions that may be answered on here.
It comes with the original ca. 2007 XPe system installed. There is a copy of Aloha on there as well as the Epos software used by the previous owner.
Ideally I'd like to erase the whole thing and reinstall a fresh system. Given the machine comes with an XPe licence how and where would I find an up to date OS image that's installable using this included licence code on the sticker.
Is it possible to update the system to posready without any additional cost, using the included XPe code
My old HP laptop came certified for Vista but HP happily sent me a win7 install disk at no additional charge. Is this the kind of thing Radiant CS are likely to do with Xpe / Posready 2009/11/7
As the P1220 came with the Aloha client, does that mean I could consider using Aloha instead of Unicenta/openbravo. I.e. does Aloha come with Radiant Epos tills by default included in the new price. Could I download the server from Radiant for free and run Aloha instead? (most probably wishful thinking but never know) even if it is an old version.
Also I'd appreciate any advice on using solid state instead of the 80GB pata drive. Can I use a say 32 or 64gb CF card or do I need some sort of special and expensive ssd that only fits this and few other machines.
The P1220 also includes the C500 enhanced customer display. This shows up as a 2nd monitor in the p1220's xp display settings. It shows as having a resolution of 640x480. However the display itself seems lower rez than this, as in it doesn't show a full 640x480 desktop, it looks like a 320x240 window onto a 640x480 desktop.
When I run the Aloha software it uses the 2nd screen properly to show a welcome message though I can't get much further than that without an aloha server to connect to.
Can this screen be configured to show full VGA rez and can it be used with other software or is it really just for Aloha systems.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, particularly links to up to date OS install images that allow me to reinstall the whole system.
Also any advice at all regarding this system would help me very much as I'm on a learning curve so I thank you all in advance.
Many thanks with best regards from London UK.
