radeon 8500 (128MB) and an abit bl7 board with a 1.6Ghz P4. I've installed (at least I think I have) the drivers a few times, and the machine will not see the video card. Its a AGP 4x card, in the proper slot.

I'm thinking the card is fully seated as the locking tab is in the correct position. I can only use 480x640 in 16 colors and can not slide the slider to anything better, nor can I choose anything better than 16 colors.

I had an MCSE friend give me the settings on my mother board, so I'm fairly sure those are fine.

Thanks for the help guys.

Unlikely to be a hardware issue as the card is obviously working or you would not have a display. You do not say what OS you have, are you sure you have the correct drivers for that card and OS and are installing them correctly, some cards require that the drivers be installed before the card is fitted so that Windows can detect it, others you install the card first. I am not personally familiar with that card so just check the manual or web site and follow the instructions exactly. All things are possible except skiing through a revolving door.
