Hi Folks,

I'm after a little help with a duel display issue.

The PC has an ATI Radeon 7000 graphics card, with two LG flatron monitors plugged into it.

The 2nd monitor (the right hand one, it's an extention of the desktop), appears zoomed in - when you move the mouse the background and window moves to display the rest of the screen.

Both monitors are identical - 1280x1024 23bit. both have a refresh set at 75 Hz.

I have tried a different monitor, and different graphics card (albeit of the same model), with no difference at all.

I have updated drivers, and even reinstalled the mobo drivers, but this has also made no difference.

We have the same setup on some 20 PC's, all of which work flawlessly.

Before I bite the bullet and format / rebuild the PC, is there something daft that I have missed?

Thanks in advance!

Stu

It sounds like the resolution of the second monitor is set to something lower than 1280x1024. Open the display properties, go to the settings tab and click on each of the monitor icons - they should both be set to 1280x1024.

Hi Nelviticus,

Yeah the settings dialog box shows both screens as having 1280x1024 - I did check it to make sure, when I lower the resolution on the 2nd monitor the screen size changes accordingly, however the zoomed in thing prevails.

it leads me to think that it is something in the OS rather than graphics card / monitor.

In that case it sounds like the desktop area of your second monitor is larger than 1280 x 1024.

I'm sure there is something in the settings that lets you choose the size of the desktop, as well as the resolution, but I have nVidia drivers here at work so I can't check. I have a dual-monitor ATI system at home so I'll have a look tonight.

much appreciated Nelviticus, I did play about with a screen centering tool in CCC, but moving the mouse undoes all those changes (really frustrating when you think you have nailed it!)

ah, never mind, the user could not wait for us to figure out what this was, and we had to flatten and reinstall XP - worked, but I hate not knowing the underpinning cause of this.

cheers

Hmm, well I had a good old play around with my settings but couldn't find anything :(

Before you re-build the machine I'd try uninstalling the ATI software - the drivers and the CCC - and if it asks you whether you want to delete your settings as well, say yes (make sure you have the latest version of the drivers for your card saved somewhere first). Then re-boot and re-install and cross your fingers.

Ah, we both posted at the same time. Glad it worked in the end anyway!
