I bought a Radeon 32M DDR for my PC and it seems like either my card is totally unique or has a hardware problem. ATI support is still in the mode of sending me URLs of irrelevant knowledge base articles.

I've got a Gigabyte 7DX, 1.4 Ghz Athlon, 512Mb Ram. I was using Win2K until I bought the card, and am now using XP (as explained below). Previously, I had an ATI Xpert98 card which worked fine under 98, ME, 2K and XP. I haven't tried 98 or ME lately since I really don't want to run either.

My Radeon card responds with a SUBSYS=10a81002. This value is not included in any W2K driver INF I've found. Luckily, the "built-in" driver on the XP system disk DOES list it, so my card does install under XP. The symptom of the lack of entry is that if I simply try to "update driver" after a card swap, it says "Device driver is not compatible with display devices(s) found in system". If I try to do a CLEAN INSTALL of W2K (SP1 CD), it sometimes does the STOP screen, and other times, proceeds (as a VGA Compatible device). If I then try to install a driver, it STOPs on the next reboot.

This week ATI published new drivers (3276) for W2K and XP, and neither includes my SUBSYS. So the only driver I can use is the one included with the XP System disk (which doesn't support OpenGL).

Can anyone shed some light on this mystery? Am I misunderstanding the SUBSYS connection? Could anyone with a Radeon 32M DDR let me know what their subsys is (Search your registry for Radeon and look for "Subsys" key)?
