Hi all,

Is anybody experiencing intermittent problems using RAD Studio 2007 IDE?
Something like IDE access violation, code navigation problems, highlight units not found (ADODB) while they are (compilation succeded), etc.

Since few weeks I'm trying to obtain a service pack from CodeGear (Embarcadero) but their official answer is no since RAD Studio 2007 has been superseded with Delphi 2009. I even sent them some little avi's showing problems encountered but again they reply understanding my frustrations but for them, the product is working fine and they cannot reproduce the errors on their end. I'm working with the IDE about eight hours per day and they probably tested it only one time without having problems. But as I explained, those are intermittent problems and the result is the product's unstability.

I've tried the plug-in ModelMaker CodeExplorer v7 but it resolved none of the IDE problems. So I decided to call MMX Support and they replied that all IDEs since Delphi 7 have had serious problems with the IDE background compiler, and anything depending on it is then more or less broken. Delphi 2009 seems to finally fix the IDE background compiler problem. And you know what? I truly believe MMX Support. In fact, they seem more customers oriented than CodeGear(Embarcadero) Support which delivers brand new version every year without support to previous versions.

I'm tired to spend time trying to explain them problems they don't care (Delphi 2009 is out, so buy it!). It seems that there's no hope to get RAD Studio 2007 working as expected... But the great flexibility, ease of use and real power of the Delphi language kicks me for them to finally give us the great product we expect.

That's why I would like you to send reply if you have any problems using RAD Studio 2007 IDE (CodeGear support explained the "fact" that no newsgroup stated having problems with the IDE). If we could established a list of known problems, then, maybe, they will realize the unstability of their product and do something to make their customer happy.

Thank you and have a nice day,

I had a few access violations with D2007. (I can't tell you any specific problem, just that I had some. Was some time ago...)
That's why I went back to D7.
And mainly because I didn't like the IDE of the newer Studio versions.

CodeGear™ Delphi® 2007 for Win32® R2 Version 11.0.2902.10471
December 2007 Update
May 08 help Update

[Check For Updates] : No CodeGear RAD Studio updates available.

But (as I don't trust anymore messages from the product), I downloaded individually all files available and installed them. By the way, a simple InstallShield setup seems too complicated for them to redistribute patches... they prefer to let users download the entire CD or so (751 mb for an update!"/$%?&*() or even worse, zip files including an extraordinary readme.txt which gives instruction on which file to backup and where to copy the new file...

this was my another 2cents...

Your not alone I have also had exactly what could be described as intermittent problems, no show stoppers but
minor bugginess. The IDE would underline unknown units which would go away after compiling, and errors during the initial IDE loading were infrequent but happened. I could still get my work done so I've learned to ignore them.

My version is 11.0.2804.9245

Well, errors during initial loading never happened for me. And yes, while we are working, we ignore errors raised by the IDE since the program compiles: it's sad but it works...

The most buggy problem is the navigation through code: one day IDE points to the right position (in the same unit or not) and the other day it doesn't (after ctrl+click or shift+ctrl+downarrow). In fact, carret blinks sometimes at the right position but TopRow of the editor is not accurate. Using Structure ToolWindow to navigate seems to be always ok.

CodeGear simply say "cannot reproduce the problem". Even after sending avi and jpg to show many problems: no reply. I will not recommend the product even to my worst ennemy since after CodeGear has sell RAD Studio 2007, they do not offer any support to their IDE instability. Really sad... but it works... sometimes...

Game Over.

After 2 months of communication between CodeGear peoples (Product Line Sales Manager / Delphi Product Manager), they admit "that IDE does have problems", but refuse to fix them. They explain "you are the only customer out of our entire customer base that is showing problem. No one else seems to see anything like this.". Yeah, I am for sure the only one experiencing problems with this beta IDE.

After sending explanations, jpg's, avi's, and even source code! "We can't fix the problems, because we can't reproduce them". I believe them. But I don't think they really wanted to solve the problems since their ultimate solution was to buy 2009 version... Wow! what a solution... Thanks.

I've never seen a company treating his customers like this (or same word inverting some characters). Delphi is a great language, that's why it's so sad...

Next step: switching back to MS to flush Borland-CodeGear-Embarcadero-...
They really deserve it.
The way they support their product is a shame.

Sorry but I've tried.
