I don't know much about this phone system. It is a Partner 206 R4.

Problem is with fax. We can send faxes but cannot recieve them.

Any way to make this work?

We could use a little more detail regarding this problem. For example, are you certain that the fax machine uses an extension on the Partner for it's dialtone?

If not, the problem should be directed to your local phone company or--more likely--the individual that handles your office machines.

I usually use a line sharing device like the stick or command communications items

far more foolproof than trying to use system settings

When the fax is used the phone is unplugged and the fax is plugged in so I am certain it uses the Partner.

Is it recommended practice to use a Partner phone port for a fax machine? Is it even possible?

Skip555, can you provide a link to the line sharing device you mentioned?

How are the inbound fax calls directed to the extension? Do you use Direct Inward Dial? What exactly is failing on the incoming faxes? Does your fax machine offer any error messages?

Looks like the stick would be a good solution. Just wondering, what happens when the fax is in use and the user grabs the second line and tries to make a call? Does the R4 recognize that the line is in use? Would the caller hear fax tones when when attempting to dial?

the stick just returns dead air when the fax port is in use the other ports are dead .

(it may return a busy tone , I honestly don't recall I thin the command products do return the busy tone )

If you have a dedicated line for the FAX, why not program the system to have the FAX line appear WITHOUT ring on the phone extensions, and appear WITH ring on the FAX extension (but the other lines WITHOUT ring for the FAX extension).

Then set auto line select for the phones to pick the FAX line last, but the FAX extension to pick the FAX line first.

Now you have an extra line for outgoing calls on the phones, incoming calls to the FAX only ring to the machine, but you get the line lit up when in use. If someone is talking on the FAX line when you need to send a FAX, the machine will automatically pick a voice line for outbound.
