Hello, I upgraded an R3 Processor in a Legend system to an R7. Backed up, converted, and restored configuration using WinSPM Release 8. Everything went well except for the Night Service is not working. Our Night Service is manually cut on and off by using a single MLX-20 phone. Light comes on when button is pressed, but no results. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Night service programs differently on Release 7. You probably have to go back in and add the trunks to the night service group. You would not have had this programmed on the R3.

No cards were added or changed, except the processor. The Night Service is directed to ring a bell after regular business hours. Any phone in the building may be used to answer the line.

Can you call the bell manually?

I am assuming it is connected to a single line port.

I dialed up the bell from 2 different phones, the bell is working manually.

Here is additional information I gathered today. I am configuring a Merlin Mail Voice Messaging System Release 3. Trying to set up the night service using WinSPM 8 or the MLX-20 console. Entering programming mode, NightSrvec, GroupAssign, Calling Grp (I enter 200 as the Night Service operator extension), then Enter. Next I tried to enter the extension number of the Merlin Mail Calling Group. I entered ext. 319, the ext. of our night bell and I get an “error beep”. It wouldn’t let me enter ext. 319 or any other ext. for that matter. Again, any info would be greatly appreciated.

ok, here is what I just read. You went into group calling under night service. you entered the VM calling group. What happened after that?? did it work?? Were you able to enter it. As well, then you entered 319, the night bell EXTENSION. If you were trying to enter this under calling group, that would be your issue. 319 i am assuming is an extension, so, that should be entered under extensions. You wouldn't be able to enter any extensions under group calling. I might be reading it wrong.

Hum....After I entered 200 for the Night Service operator, the console automatically went to “Enter group call ext”. This is where I tried to enter ext. 319 for the night bell and the console would “error beep” on anything I tried to enter.

I’ll try again, I’ll exit out as soon as I enter ext. 200 for the Night Service operator and enter ext. 319 under extensions.

you go to Night Service - Group Assign - Extensions -, dial the extension of the night service operator, then enter the extension of the night bell, x319.

This may still be there from your upgrade.

You will also need to assign incoming lines to the night service as well. Night Service - Group Assign - Lines. This is new one the R7 in regards to the R3 programming.

That took care of the problem! I assigned the incoming lines and it is working fine. Thanks to everyone for your advise and direction. Have a great day!
