I have a customer with an old Legend with an R2 processor.
I need to upgrade them to an R7, so I backed up the Processor config to my laptop using the backup-file procedure via win-SPM (ver 8). so far, so good...

When I go to convert the R2 backup file to an R7 convert file, It looks like its going to work, but at the end of the convert I get an Error message saying invalid.

I know I can't actually upgrade the R2 Processor into an R7, but I was hoping to be able to perform a backup, a convert, and then restore to another processor that was already at R7.

Am I missing something here? I have done a lot of upgrades and backups on Legends and Magix, but have honestly never attempted go from an R2 to an R7!

Thanks.

I know of nothing that would prevent this from working.

The R7 didn't care what cards the R2 would have.

Have you tried to do a 2nd back up and convert?

Perhaps the back up file has been corrupted.

Email it to me and let me see if it fails in a different computer, What do you think?

The release seven has to run on a system that has either a CKE 4 or 5 processor. (This means r5 or 6 +). They actually addressed this particular issue in a class that I took once.

Merlinman,
I did try a 2nd backup and it did the same thing.
I will try it again on another laptop and maybe a different version of SPM?
Thanks for your kind offer! I will take you up on it if I dont have any luck.

Well, while they teach the CKE4 or 5, it can be loaded onto a CKE3, but you will not like the results if you ever try to use the "HIGHER DENSITY" modules. (016 MLX and the like will not come up fully)

The issue is the backup wont even convert to a newer release. Did you try steps? Like convert to let say an R4 to see if it works then go up from there. It may be worh a try.

There were some known issues in trying to upgrde an R1 or R2. Last one i did, I had to reprogramm from scratch.

I tried using a different laptop with a different version of SPM and it seemed to work OK.
Thanks for the input from everyone.
