You will lose your programmng. Do a print configuration report from a Fast Rad using N* manager, (or take config out by hand) then upgrade and reprogram using the C1UR1 Handbomb technique.
Ugly but true.
if you do a 2 step from 1 to 4 to 6.1 you would keep most of your programming but you need upgrade tool and would need to verifiy alot of proggramming to insure it carried over correctly

Like Pat said. Borrow a copy of Rls 4 and an upgrade tool. Power down, take out R1T1 and put in new software NVRAM. Put in the upgrade tool. Wait for "insert MICS" message on phone. Power down and replace upgrade tool with Rls 4. Power up and wait for it to finish. Power down and put in 6.1 power up and wait for finish.
You will need to re-do/check the target lines for sure. Everything else "should" be fine.
Be smart and do like they say. Get a paper copy of all programming, just in case!
if you have a 2 part software cartridge you wont need the upgrade tool only from r1t1 thru 3.0 do you need upgrade tool and if you need it you need to contact a dealer
