R15 not backing up exchange 2010 1

I have migrated our exchange server from 2007 to 2010, and the O/S from 2003 to 2008. I also had to upgrade from R12.5 to R15. Now when I try to back up the mailboxes brick-level just gives me "connection lost.", and whereas mailbox level is allowed, the job log gives me this at the end:

31/08/2010 18:00:16 E3577 Cannot find DB on Exchange server. ( DB = *, server = EXCHANGE-SERVER )
31/08/2010 18:00:16 W2238 Unable to add item EXCHANGE-SERVER into the data source list. (EC=1)

I am fast running out of ideas.
