How do I allow for carriage returns in asking a question and getting a small paragraph of in put back?

Do you mean if someone is writing from STDIN? If so, you feed their input into an array instead a scalar. Their input will not be terminated by a carriage return if data is being fed to an array. They have to use ctrl+z on windows or ctrl+d on linux to stop input.
