R-5 notes folders

I have folders associated with my Notes at work. One is a "profile" folder and the other is a "Recent" folder. When I open these they come up in Notepad and one has Y's with dots over them and some recognizable words while the other one has some words showing and others blacked out. Is there any way I can read these correctly?
