In my work I am asked to use fonts that belong to Taylor Publishing. The true type fonts load correctly on my Presario 1200 running Windows 98 and PM 6.5 but do not appear on screen or print correctly.

Quotes appear as italicized v's. An appostrophe appears as an italicized "O" with a serif at the upper right-hand corner. Then I have to go into each text frame and hand select the character to change it to Times. This is a pain.

I have looked at all the help topics on text and type to no avail. Any ideas?

Thanks,

angler,

first I would ask if you installed the fonts properly. Just copying the fonts to a folder does not always install properly.

I would recommend a font management syste such as one of the following:
Adobe Type Manager Deluxe, from Adobe
Font Navigator, from Bitstream. Bitstream have withdrawn this in favour of another program, Font Reserve. However, Font Navigator has for several years been packaged with Corel products, so there are many copies in circulation
Suitcase for Windows, from Extensis
Qualitype, who used to sell Font Handler, seem no longer to be in business. (I’m open to correction on that)

Always install fonts using the font manager application. Or use Windows Start>Settings>Control Panel>Fonts to installl/uninstall fonts.

Also, don't have more than 100 or 150 fonts active at any time or you will run into other problems (this is a Windows issue, not PM)
When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.

Thanks,

I did load the fonts through the control panels and located and "saw" the font in the window before installing.

Oddly enough, I have this same problem on my Mac with some of the same font families. I am beginning to believe they are bad fonts but have not convinced Taylor Publishing of it yet.

Thanks for your help.

When you view the fonts using the character set, or through Adobe Type Manager, do the special marks display properly? It does sound as if the fonts sets are whacky. When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.

You're right. I checked the Character Map and found that the entire row contained odd characters instead of the expected symbols. Most of them look like greek letters.

I think I will give up on these font families and inform affected schools that they need to select a different font.

Thanks for all your help.

sounds like you need to find a comparable font.... or if it is important use that font and also a similar font for the symbols When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.
