I am upgrading my MS Sharepoint SQL Server 2000 database and am receiving the following message during upgrade:

########################
Name: Microsoft SQL Server 2000
Reason: Your upgrade is blocked. For more information about upgrade
support, see the "Version and Edition Upgrades" and

"Hardware and Software Requirements" topics in SQL Server 2005 Setup
Help or SQL Server 2005 Books Online.
#########################################################

I searched online and it recommended applying SQL Server SP3. Well I am currently at SP4 so this should not be an issue.

Note: I only have a default instance of 2000 on the box and no named instances.

Also I this is was an MSDE install of Sharepoint but not sure if this is having an affect on the upgrade.

OOOO, edition could be causing a problem. You need to make sure which 2005 edition you are using for the upgrade. MSDE is 'free'. You can't upgrade it to Standard or Enterprise because those cost money and require licenses.

I just checked and you need to make sure you are using the Express Edition for the upgrade. That's the 2005 version of MSDE.

What is the best way to check whether the installed 2000 version is MSDE, Standard, or Enterprise? Thanks so much!

Actually I just ran select @@version and got:

Microsoft SQL Server 2000 - 8.00.2039 (Intel X86) May 3 2005 23:18:38 Copyright (c) 1988-2003 Microsoft Corporation Enterprise Edition on Windows NT 5.2 (Build 3790: Service Pack 1)

I am thinking that the CDs that the 2005 software mounted on server may actually not be Enterprise. That is the only thing that I can think of.

Here is the best way:

SELECT ServerProperty('Edition')
