Your sytem allows only 8 instance(s) of NDISWAN" is the rror message I receive when trying to install AOL 8 or AOL 9 onto a laptop running 98SE.

The system then states that it is "Installing network adapter files. Please wait" before rebooting.

After reboot it states again that it is "Installing network adapter files. Please wait" and the "Your system allows only 8 instance(s) of NDISWAN" before rebooting agin, and again, and again....

The only way out of the cycle is to do a hard shutdown.

Any ideas?

You have too many network adapters installed, or you have protocols binding to a single adapter multiple times.

Yep, 27 WAN mini ports installed in System evices.

Why it was doing this I have no idea, managed to sort it, dont ask how though!

Thanks,

The Doc

This is very common on Laptops that use PCMCIA adapters for networking (wired, wireless, etc). For some reason, just placing the card in a different PCMCIA slot will cause it to have another entry.
