This is the first time I have ever installed a voice mail system. We have a Partner ACS R.7 processor and a Partner Messaging voice mail module in a 2-slot carrier.

Whenever callers call in, they get the message, "Your call is being transferred". When I power down and take the Messaging module out of the carrier, callers can call in as usual.

What gives?

We only have 3 incoming lines (2 for voice, 1 for fax) and 5 extensions (4 for voice, 1 for fax). I have already assigned extensions 10-13 to Hunt Group 7. I have programmed the Transfer Return extension for each of the extensions.

What am I missing?

recondaddy, I don't believe the extensions you have assigned are the correct ones, What cards do you have in the sytem and what slots are they in?

Take ext's 10-13 out of HG7, and put in 19 & 20 if a 2 port VM, 19,20,21,22 for 4 port, 19 thru 24 for 6 port VM,
Also 2 slot carrier may burn out cards faster due to heat, 5 slot would be better!

didn't read completely your post, assign ext. 19 and 20 to program #505 in group 7, then your mail will answer

rcaptech and allisland,

Thanks for your replies, but I guess I'm still a bit fuzzy, conceptually, on why would I assign extensions 19 & 20 to HG7. Why not 72 & 73? Why not 97 & 98? Why not any other random numbers that I could pull out of the air?

The documentation that came with the product doesn't really explain the system in a way that I would readily understand. The documentation stated that you should assign the extensions that are associated with Voice Mail to HG7. I took that to mean the extensions that would be using voice mail.

It's pretty poor technical writing, especially for someone who is brand new to this.

The voice mail is seen by you system as a 2 line by 6 station card. You have a 5 line by 9 station system. Your extensions start with 10 and run through 18 on the main board. There fore you next extensions for the voice mail will be 19 and 20 for a 2 port unit. You have to assign the correct extensions to hunt group 7 as a minimum. Hope that helps.

The slot that you place the voice mail card into determines the ext's that you program into HG 7, also you never said which port license you got with the messaging unit, 2,4 or 6, that's why I gave you all the possibilities for the 2 slot carrier, and don't forget to remove your original 10-13 from there.

Also unless your programming voice mail cover buttons on each ext, you'll have to program auto voice mail coverage in #310 for each ext.

recondaddy,
Only the voice mail ports go into hunt group 7 not the telephone extensions, take all of the phone stations out and only assign the voice mail ports at it will work, also program 206 7 for the lines covered by vm, also 506 for day and night ring options and 507 for when they are to be answered.
