I have a recycled extension that I am using in a lab area. It doesn't have a mailbox and internally it is functioning fine. We can dial that extension and after 3 or 4 rings if no one picks up it bounces to the operator. When outside callers dial our main number then try to transfer to this extension they get the message "your call cannot be transferred to that extension, please dial another extension". What do I need to change so that outside callers can transfer to this extension ?

Thanks,
Bill

I'm thinking it needs to be added as, oh whats it called? Not a subscriber, but basically you tell Voicemail "Valid" extensions on the switch.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

I think it needs to be a transfer only extension. I believe you go into extensions to build a mailbox and it will ask you if it is to be a xfer only station (depending on which voicemail system it is).

What I have done is create a mailbox with a class of service of 20. Now external callers can transfer to this extension. This leads me to another problem. Now that the mail box has been created, after 3 rings the voice mail picks up and says "voice mail is full, hit *t or 0 ....".

I just want this extension to ring until someone picks up or the caller hangs up. Any ideas on this ?

Thanks,
Bill

Thats it. Transfer Extension. Thats the feature you're looking for.

Remove the mailbox for those extensions, and reprogram them as Transfer Extensions.

you can also take the extension out of the coverage group (usually 30) that covers to the Voicemail calling group (770). That way the phone will ring til it is answered. It will not cover to anywhere.

That was the final resolution for us, when I removed the extension from cover group 30 everything worked as we needed it to.

Thanks all !
