Hi everyone,
I fixed a situation like this before but all I did was rem out a sound driver line in the config.sys. This time the Windows protection error came up after I tried to boot up in safe mode. I tried to do the same fix but now when I try to boot up in safe mode, the system acts like it is going to bootup;however, a black screen come up with a flashing cursor in the upper left corner. Please help?

Those errors can be caused by bad ram. Run a few ram tests with Doc Memory (free) and see what it reports. It's run via startup floppy.

Or if you have 2 ram sticks remove one and see if it starts up fine. If it does, replace the one you removed. If it doesn't, put that one back in and remove the other one to test.

If that's no help have a look here:
